The mind-body connection is the intimate dance that occurs from head to toe and weaves around and through systems and cells. At its essence, the link between mental and physical is “you.” This intimate connection is more than the sum of its parts. It transcends them to become your self. Use your self as the ultimate tool to create, boost, and maintain mental health and wellbeing.
You and Your Mind-Body Connection are a Mental Health Tool (Tool Box)
It’s sometimes called the bodymind. I first heard that term while attending a lecture by Deepak Chopra.* I like “bodymid” because it implies the complete unity within us. There is no separation between body and mind; however, the term “mind-body connection” is useful. It implies that we have both mind and body and we can use ourselves in our entirety as our personal tool to create and maintain wellbeing and mental health.
Each and every one of us can harness our bodymind to overcome difficulties and create the life we want to live. It’s natural to be a bit skeptical of this, though. When faced with anxious, racing thoughts or other negative thoughts, it might seem odd that the best strategy to use is to turn inward where the anxiety is. Or similarly, in times when motivation and energy are depleted, why turn to the internal highway system to remedy this problem that is inside said system?
You are the Expert in Your Bodymind
Turning inward works. The intimate relationship between body and mind is an incredibly effective tool. You have what you need for your wellbeing wherever you are and in any moment in time. You’re in tune with your own rhythms, and you are the master of your whole being. You can work to get the connection between your brain and the rest of your body flowing efficiently.
